The Borough Plateau Mont-Royal has placed a public piano in Milton Parc for one month. It's located at the corner of Parc and Prince Arthur. The photos come from the first event which was organized by the CMP and held on July 9th. A second event is coming soon...

On February 22nd there will be a day of reflection on strategic planning for the future of the CMP. The day will begin at 9 a.m. in the basement of Notre-Dame de la Salette at 3535 Parc and will end at 4 p.m.. Lunch will be provided to participants. ALL residents of CMP and all members of boards (there are non-residents on some osbl boards) are invited to take part.
The objective is to know the opinions, suggestions and vision of the residents on the futur of the CMP. The day will consist of a series of round-table discussions of 8 to 10 people. After a period of exchange, we will meet in plenary to share the results from each table. We will note the priorities and determine if a consensus on each subject has emerged.

Our community information meeting, Thursday, November 13, presenting ideas from the members of our large coalition (La Coalition Sauvons les 5 sites hospitaliers) was a huge success!
Over 200 people came, ready with questions and some ideas of their own. The atmosphere was alive.
We welcomed M. Jean-Jacques Bohémier, who represented Mayor Coderre, who could not be present, and who spoke on the Mayor’s behalf carrying the Mayor’s best wishes and support for much of our efforts; he also sent the message from the Mayor that we must meet with the appropriate people in the Québec government and pressure them to work with us; we have to convince them that we know what we are doing.
The expression on M. Bohémier’s face when he entered the room indicated his surprise at the large number of people filling the hall at Notre-Dame de la Salette. The addresses listed on our attendance sheets showed that about half the audience came from the greater Milton-Parc area, and the rest from all other parts of the city. Clearly people are concerned about what is going to happen to our soon-to-be emptied 5 hospitals.
Having ten or more tables stretched over the room with knowledgeable activists accompanied by the appropriate future plans for each of the 5 sites, was very popular; everyone chatting together.
The speeches presented the many ideas coming from our member organizations that show how these sturdy old buildings, publicly owned, can be useful as housing, clinics, recreation and cultural projects, and community services.
The greatest applause greeted a few passionate speakers who spoke of the tremendous need in our city to house low income families, the homeless, and to make available in our neighbourhood emergency healthcare and walk in clinics, as well as other community services.
The success of this information meeting has given us a big boost forward. The next step for the Plateau neighbourhood, which includes Milton-Parc, is to present the Quebec government with concrete plans that will show how our proposed uses can be managed, financed and governed.
We will keep you posted, and you can count on a similar spring information meeting to keep you up to date.
Final Note: A thousand thanks to all the wonderful volunteers (about 30 I would guess) who are responsible for the success of this evening: putting up 600 posters, putting 1200 leaflets in doors all over the city, setting up and taking down the tables and chairs for the evening, arriving early and leaving late. I dare not start mentioning names for fear I will leave someone out. Anyway – to you all, thank you!
We also want to thank all the generous individuals who contributed financially to the cost of the meeting; we raised $300, $200 of which goes to pay the church for the use of the hall and $100 will contribute to the expenses of printing the posters. Thanks again for all your help.

On July 1st, the Milton Park Community celebrated its 35th anniversary at the MAI community centre. We also celebrated Lucia Kowaluk's 80th birthday as well as her induction to the Order of Canada last year and the Order of Quebec this year. Congratulations Lucia!

Hello everyone,
We've received bad news regarding Parc Oxygène. The Superior Court refused to grant us the safeguard order we asked for to prevent the issuance of a building permit to the developer who wants to replace the green area that local citizens have created and maintained for over 20 year. For your information, the park was destroyed the morning of June 26th.
For the CMP board, this defeat marks the end of their efforts to defend Parc Oxygène. The board was unanimous on this issue: we had gone to the end of our resources. Therefore, we have asked our lawyer to take the necessary measures to put an end to this case. I remind you that it was a lawyer who worked pro-bono and had said from the start that he would not be available for more than we can pay.
Obviously, this is a sad day for the whole community, and it will take time to grieve. In the meantime, we must sincerely thank our neighbours on Rue Hutchison, the members of the Coop La Petite Hutchison, and all of the others who have campaigned for years for the defense and maintenance of the park, especially in recent months. Thank you also to the groups and individuals who have financially supported the defense of the park.
Even though we lost, I think we can be proud of the mobilization effort that was deployed in support of the Park. We proved that we are still able to mobilize and fight to defend our ideals.

On Feb 3, 2014, during a Plateau-Mount-Royal borough meeting, Project Montreal voted to destroy Parc Oxygène and replace it with a condo project.
Local residents spent 25 years creating, maintaining and defending the park. Four years in power and Project Montreal did nothing to help. Then they stabbed us in the back. But the fight to save Parc Oxygène is not over.
Local residents will fight in the courts and use creative resistance on the ground to stop the condo project. If you want to help save Parc Oxygène, please contact us. Whose city? Whose neighbourhoods? Ours! NO BULLDOZERS! NO CONDOS! Defend Parc Oxygène! Long live the park!
